From conventional teaching to skill-based & digital learning

India’s education landscape is undergoing a significant transformation with the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020. For many decades, classrooms followed a conventional teaching pattern in which the teacher explained concepts, students listened, and learning was largely measured through written examinations. While this system helped build discipline and conceptual foundations, it often focused heavily on memorisation rather than understanding and application. The modern education system now recognises that the world has changed significantly, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence and rapid technological advancement. Students today require not only knowledge but also skills such as critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and digital literacy. As a result, pedagogy is shifting from teacher-centred instruction to student-centred and skill-based learning. One of the key aspects of this shift is the integration of digital teaching ...

El Niño Explained: A National Geographic-Style Reading Passage with Critical Thinking Questions for Grade 6

El Niño: A Global Ocean-Atmosphere Disruption Across the equatorial Pacific Ocean, a slow but powerful shift in ocean temperature is unfolding— one that scientists monitor closely because of its ability to influence weather patterns on a global scale. This phenomenon, known as El Niño, is not a storm or a single event, but a reorganisation of heat within the Earth’s ocean-atmosphere system. Under normal conditions, trade winds act like a conveyor belt, pushing warm surface water from South America toward Southeast Asia and Australia. This allows cold, nutrient-rich water to rise near the coast of Peru and Ecuador, supporting one of the most productive marine ecosystems on Earth. But during an El Niño event, this system weakens. The trade winds slow down or reverse, and warm water begins to spread eastward across the Pacific. This shift may appear subtle in satellite images, but its consequences are far-reaching. Warmer ocean temperatures change evaporation rates, which in turn alter cl...
