Indore will celebrate Shani Jayanti on May 22, which is the new moon day of Jyeshtha month. Preparation for celebrations began in Shani temples on Thursday to prepare the grand platter for the lord.
One of the most significant Shani temples in the city is located in Juni Indore. It is believed to be more than 300-year-old.
The temple is talked about even in the royal era of Holkar Dynasty. Devi Ahilyabai has been cited in scriptures to visit the temple and pray.
On birthday of lord Shani, this temple is generally crowded with thousands of devotees from Indore and nearby districts. This year, due to lockdown for preventing outspread of coronavirus, only the temple priest and committee will participate in the celebrations.
Some temples are preparing a large platter of food to offer lord Shani on his birthday. Manshapurni Shani Temple at Jinsi Chouraha began celebrations in full swing collecting ration and preparing 56 items to offer to the lord.
Heading of the celebrations Shyam Agrawal said, “Lord Shani is the god of justice and to those who follow the path of righteousness, the lord bestows blessings, good health and fortune.”
Further this year Shani Jayanti coincides with Vat Savitri Vrat which is observed on Jyeshtha Amavasya in major North and Central Indian states in the country.
To celebrate Vat Savitri Vrat, women prepared ritual essentials and completed their chores in advance. To celebrate the day, women will worship the Vat tree after observing the fast of Vat Savitri.
