With unemployment on the rise, more students are inclined towards career in the Indian Army. Though it has been a struggle to register, the number of aspirants seeking registrations with National Cadet Corps has multiplied to double.
Sharing these details, Brigadier HR Desai heading NCC in Madhya Pradesh shared that registration of cadets is being accepted and last date will be extended as needed, since it is tough for cadets to register due to coronavirus pandemic.
“The extension has been allowed for registration of Junior Division Cadets of the Indian Government on a wholly self-financing basis (Self Finance Scheme) subject to the following conditions,” Desai said.
“This is part of the expansion plan of NCC, under which the government has given approval for grant of additional one lakh vacancies for out of turn allotment to NCC cadet strength to junior division/junior wing of private/quasi- government schools on fully self-finance basis,” Desai said.
He added that under the scheme, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh NCC Directorate can register 5600 additional cadets from the upcoming training session on a fully self-contained basis (self-finance scheme). He informed that the following conditions have been laid for this.
Conditions for additional NCC cadet registrations
· There should be at least 500 students enrolled in the institute.
· One or two Junior Division / Junior Wing (JD / JW) units will be allotted to the institutions included in the waiting list for NCC.
· The institute will have to bear all the expenses such as infrastructure, training, uniforms of NCC officers, male cadets and female cadets, self-employed, and ex-servicemen on contract for training and the entire expenditure will be borne by the institute itself.
· A maximum of three schools may appoint only one Ex-Serviceman as a PI staff to train cadets, provided the distance between these institutions does not exceed 5 kilometers. If this is not possible, then former NCC holding 'C' certificate. Cadets (who have passed "C" certificate examination with at least "B" grade) may be contracted.
· The Commanding Officer Training of the battalion will be responsible for inspection of the camp training. He will also be able to observe the infrastructure of the institute and the training given to the cadets by the contracted PI staff.
· Group commanders will be authorized to allocate / start NCC unit in institutions under the said scheme.
· This scheme will be implemented in the training session 2021 -22 and it will be reviewed in the next session i.e. 2022 -23.
· Under this scheme, cadets are to be registered on a total of one lakh seats in the country. At present, 70,000 seats will be distributed among the 17 NCC directorates all over India in proportion to the total seats available now. For the remaining 30,000 seats, the number of cadets will be allotted in a fixed proportion as per the demand from the states.
Desai said, “Citing benefits to health, leadership, discipline and fitness, many institutes are seeking to register NCC cadets.”
