Leopard Missing in Indore: Did it escape on the way or is just hiding in city zoo? The question raised on zoo & forest teams

The missing rescued Leopard never reached Indore? Kamla Nehru Prani Sanghralaya, i.e. Indore city zoo authorities claim that the leopard possibly never reached Indore as it was not seen by any of the authorities.
“We can’t find pugmarks of the leopard… it is nowhere to been in three days already now!” Dr Uttam Yadav, city zoo in-charge, said. He justified that in the area of 22 acre with 42 CCTVs, it seems odd that we have not been able to trace one leopard.
“We have checked every swamp, enclosure, hillock and corner of the zoo, but no trace of the leopard,” Yadav said. He claimed that the leopard was probably dropped on the way.
“Maybe the leopard had broken the cage on the way and escaped even before the vehicle reached Indore, and the cage was empty when it was brought here,” Yadav said. He added that no one from the team had even shown or verified the entry of a leopard in city zoo.
“They were supposed to show us and officially confirm the leopard, which the forest team from Burhanpur did not,” Yadav said. He had already informed the team not to bring the leopard at night.
“We told them that it cannot be shifted at night and had asked them to bring it tomorrow morning,” Yadav said. However, when the team arrived, he instructed the team to stay overnight.
“The entire team left, did not inform me and just left the driver and cage,” Yadav said. He added that the zoo authorities would have made arrangements if informed that forest team is leaving, despite the instructions.
“It is their responsibility to at least inform, so these instances and not able to find the leopard raises a suspicion that the leopard probably did not even arrive in Indore,” Yadav said.
Team had stayed over, city zoo did not admit leopard
Burhanpur DFO Pradeep Mishra said, “Our team had gone to Indore to drop the injured leopard at night. Since it was night, city zoo authorities refused to receive the leopard.”
He added that despite the leopard being injured, when city zoo refused to admit it, the team stayed over. “Our team slept by parked the cage under the supervision of three cameras inside the zoo at night,” Mishra said.
In the morning the leopard was not found and the mesh of the cage was broken. When the cameras were checked, all three of them turned non-functional.
Special look-out for leopard in early morning
“We are still confirming the situation with the help of the CCTVs installed. I think it’s too early to take a call. It was early morning with low visibility. CCTV footages are not very decisive. We will take a chance tonight minimising the disturbance.”

Hungry, soon leopard will be seen
On the first night, slight movement was possibly seen. In the movement, it was seen a limping leopard possibly. We have illuminated the tracks where it could be seen. It was not seen last night.
The leopard ate in Burhanpur last, i.e. about 2 to 3 days back. Hence, it must be starving now. So, it is bound to come out eventually. We are trying not to disturb it unnecessarily. We will track tonight.”

Overnight search to continue
In Indore, the forest department and zoo management employees carried out a search operation overnight to catch the leopard that ran away from the zoo.
The team searched by wearing halogen on their head. The leopard has not been traced even after 48 hours. Wherever the leopard's pug marks and blood marks were found, three cages have been put up.
Efforts are being made to catch the leopard with their help. Mutton was kept in cages to trap the leopard. These are being monitored from the CCTV room. As soon as the leopard is tracked, the staff will catch it while discussing the walkie-talkie.
At the same time, wherever his movement is visible, the area has been lit up with halogen lights. The entry of people in the zoo has been closed for now.
Forest officials said that the leopard has suffered a leg injury, so it could not jump very long, but could walk. The leopard is also at risk of catching infection due to the injury.
Trap can injury the leopard
It is not possible to lay a trap, it can cause damage in the zoo, teams of two to three people have been formed to find the leopard.
According to officials, the leopard is small. Not in a position to attack, but seeing someone alone while injured can turn violent. During the rescue in Nepanagar, he was caught by laying a trap, so it is not possible to come back to the trap.
