The trouble continued through-out the day as the administration tried to dig out the details of rumours and found the snippets of question papers released on social media.
The board exams are being held in the morning shift between 9 am to 12 noon. About 49,000 students appeared for the examination at 137 centres in Indore, and of these, 21 centres were declared sensitive, and police personnel were deployed at these places to keep a check on cheating.
From the Indore division, a total of 253,657 students registered for the upcoming MPBSE boards for this academic year. Among them, overall 1,43,707 will undertake the Class 10 examination while 1,09,950 will appear for Class 12 examination.
Administration refuted leak, said ‘questions don’t match’
District administration refuted rumours that the Hindi paper of the Class 10 board examination had been leaked on social media just hours before the exam commenced on Monday.
The administration warned of legal action against people spreading fake news about the exam paper.
District education officer (DEO) Manglesh Kumar Vyas said the administration's probe revealed that the reports about the Class 10 Hindi paper being leaked on social media were fake.
"When we compared the question paper that surfaced on social media with the actual one, the codes and questions did not match," he said.
DEO said some anti-social elements are spreading fake news about the paper leak, and a first information report will be registered against them under the Information Technology Act.
Collector Ashish Singh said that the viral question paper is not related to Indore district in any way. The news regarding question paper being out is completely false.
Chief Executive Officer of District Panchayat Siddharth Jain said that as soon as the news of the question paper being out was received, the viral question paper was checked on social media. During investigation, the viral question paper was found to be fake.
The codes of today's question paper and the viral question paper are different and the questions are also different.
Last year, MPBSE suspended 19 employees for paper leaks
MPBSE has a long history of paper leaks, every year, at least one such case is reported, often many more. Last year, the board suspended 19 employees including teachers for their irresponsible act in handling the ongoing exam question papers. The 19 suspended employees had included 6 centre heads, 7 assistant centre heads and 5 teachers.
In the said case, the accused had added over 30,000 students appearing in the board exams on social media groups. Sources said that he took over 4 lakh rupees from 600 students.
Board announced penalty of 10 lakh
This year, the board had announced imposition of strict rules against the paper leak and other fraudulent activities during the exam. A penalty fine of up to Rs 10 lakh will be imposed on those who leak papers during board exams. Along with the penalty, the accused will also be sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
Bill to curb paper leaks @Parliament
On the other hand, a Bill to curb paper leaks in major exams was introduced in the Parliament.
The Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024 proposes a minimum of three to five years of imprisonment in paper leak cases and between five to 10 years in cases of organised crimes.
