Heard of Robotic surgeries? Here is all about it; Love sports? Protect mouth with guard & excel with safety

Urology has increasingly become a technology‐driven specialty. The advent of robotic surgical systems is a new addition to it and now urologists are becoming the world leaders in the use of this technology. In the past, surgeons made large incisions in skin and muscle, so called open surgery. There after laparoscopy was invented as a minimally invasive technique in which surgeon can see inside the abdomen with tiny camera and can perform the surgery with instruments, introduced via 2-3 small holes. But this technique had several limitations, like restricted rotation of instruments and 2D vision. The discovery of surgical robot was a revolution, which provided 360 degree movement of instruments, like human arm and perfect 3D vision.
When people first hear the term robotic surgery it is hard not to imagine a robot plucked straight from a science fiction movie standing over a patient in an operating room. The type of robotic surgery that is performed today is not quite as fanciful—yet it is still very impressive. Robotic surgery may be more accurately described as robot-assisted surgery, in which surgeons guide mechanized tools and robotic arms to perform surgical procedures. The surgical robot is not autonomous as it can’t “think" according to a programmed set of rules. The surgeon guides the actions of the robot at all times. The da-Vinci is the most advanced master–slave system in which the master (surgeon) guides his slave (robotic arms) to do a procedure.
Advantages of Robotic Surgery
Highly Precise
Small incisions
Much less blood loss
Significantly Less pain and Reduced use of pain medication
Quicker healing time
Reduced duration of hospital Stay
Faster return to Work
Better results
This technology is also important for the nerve preservation during prostate surgery, which helps to maintain continence and sexual function after surgery.

Sports dentistry is one of the most recent and upcoming field in dentistry. It mainly includes the prevention and management of athletics-related orofacial injuries and associated oral diseases.
Sports Dentistry
Approximately 30 percent dental injuries are due to sports and approximately 40 percent of sports injuries involve face, as observed by Dentist Dr. Jyoti Chipde. The most important aspect in prevention is wearing helmets, facemask and mouth guards.
What is Mouth guard?
A mouth guard is a protective device for the mouth that covers the teeth and gums to prevent and reduce injury to the teeth, arches, lips and gums.
Why should athletes wear mouth guard?
Reduce possibility of teeth being lost or fractured
Reduce the possibility of jaw dislocation and fracture
Reduce the risk of bruise, cuts and disfiguring face
Provide comfort to breath enable to compete more competitively and perform more confidently
Wear mouth guards while playing
Acrobatics, surfing, baseball. Field events, bicycling, water polo. Sky diving, equestrian events, basketball, boxing, field hockey, football, gymnastics, ice hockey, squash, rugby, skateboarding, skiing, soccer, volleyball, and wrestling
Types of Mouth guards
Stock mouth guards: They are purchased from sports store. They are least expensive. Read to wear because one size fits all. But they are not adapted to teeth, so must be held in place by biting. They are least retentive, often bulky and make breathing and talking difficult and they provide little or no protection.
Boil and bite mouth guards: They are intermediate between stock and custom fabricated variety. They are fabricated by placing mouth guard foam in boiling water to soften the material and then placed into mouth and adapted. It does not offer proper fit and protection to teeth.
Custom fabricated mouth guard: They are made by dentist in clinic. They have superior adaptation and retention. They interfere least with speech and breathing.
