Applications open for lawyers to join Indian Defence Forces 2021: Last date to apply June 4, 2021

The online application for Army Judge Advocate General Branch (JAG) is open on www.joinindianarmy.nic.in , and interested applicants can apply before June 4, 2021.

Male as well as female candidates will be shortlisted based on percentages in law degree by Army HQ for direct Services Selection Board (SSB) interview.

“The SSB interview will be conducted between July to Oct and selected candidates will be imparted basic military training of 49 weeks in Officers Training Academy, Chennai,” Colonel (retd) Nikhil Diwanji, a mentor in Indore, said.

The online application notification is published every six months by the Army HQ and there are four vacancies for males and two for females.

“In the 49th week after the glorious passing out parade the cadet will be awarded the rank of LT in the Army and then may be posted anywhere in India or abroad. During the 49 weeks training the cadet earns a stipend of Rs.56,100/ per month,” Diwanji said.
 
Induction of law graduates in Indian Defence Forces

The Indian Defence Forces , namely Army and Navy and Air Force induct law graduates both male and female for handling the law related issues and advice the forces on legal actions to be taken.

It’s a job which involves not only IPC, CRPC but also the law officer has to learn in detail the Army , Navy or Air force laws too. He or she as law officer is awarded the commission by none other than the President of India in the JAG.

Eligibility to apply

The qualifications essentially required are above 55 % cumulative in law degree and the degree should be from a college or university recognized by Bar Council of India and the candidate should be eligible for registration as advocate with Bar council of state or India.

The age should be below 27 years at the time of applying online. Age Limit is 21 to 27 years as on 01 Jul 2021 (Born not earlier than 02 Jul 1994 and not later than 01 Jul 2000; both dates inclusive).

The medical and physical criteria is same as for other officers and is given in the notification of Combined Defence Services Exam notification published by the UPSC. No waiver in age and medical standards is granted and there is no reservation of any kind.

Air Force JAG

The Air Force inducts JAG officers through the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) every six months. After qualifying in AFCAT the candidate has to clear SSB interview and medicals and has to come in final merit list to join the Air Force Academy in Hyderabad. The vacancies depend on the need of JAG officers in IAF.

JAG in Indian Navy

The Indian Navy being comparatively a small force has very less vacancies for JAG officers , thus publishes notification once in two or three years , recent being in early 2021. For Navy also the candidate has to clear SSB interview and medicals and has to come in final merit list to get a joining letter for Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerela.
