Relationships… Well, we have all kinds of them in our lives and they are essential, in some or the other way for our healthy and happy survival. Instead of talking like a yogi, who can become entirely self-sufficient as quoted, I think we need to be practical and honest in accepting the importance of relationships in our lives.
Starting from the first relation that we experience outside our bloodline: FRIENDSHIP. If you are still under 13 then the experience is a blend of various good and bad friends. While some of you tend to be popular and loner, some might be happy in a small group and some might have just that one best friend. In either way, friendship has better and purer meaning, where it is not about gaining access to anything, just hanging out in good company.
Now, the group below 20s is probably enjoying the quick dip into the world of crushes, dating and fantasies. Though it is not about only benefits for all, maybe for some it is… but it is still a more experience-based relation. This might continue for some years later.
However, the twist begins once you are out of college and into the real world. Many would have suffered their first heartache or maybe even many heartaches. Some would have just been blown away by hormones and in desperation for a physical relationship.
Now, this is where my thought-process begins. I am sure all of you have come across somebody telling you to be realistic and not expect the fairy tale in life. It seems quite true in a scenario, where even friendship is not left corrupted by advantages. Specially with trending movies and concepts of ‘No strings attached’ and ‘Friends with benefits’, even friends without benefits becomes rare for people.
Look around, cheating partners are too common. Divorces and break-ups have become a regular thing. Is it true that there is more lifelong relation, where you are betraying each-other? Possibly true as anyone would agree.
On a different thought, maybe we are just forgetting the art of working on relations… or too involved in physical pleasure? Who knows, what is to blame, because the truth remains that there are very few loyal, lifetime and happy relations. Maybe none if looked with a pessimistic view.
Now, the question is how should one go about it? Is it necessary to get entangled in the ideas of marriage and fooling ourselves with a lifetime happiness and togetherness, which does not exist?
Okay, being practical. Just enjoy the brief dating and remember, nobody is forever. Would you happy that way?
Even if you agree and go practically and do all of this… Would you truly find happiness in your relationships?
Make a wish! That’s your shining star. Being in a fairy tale would be a dream not just one or two, but for many people. It is difficult to get it. It is tough to find someone, who does not want anything from you and just love you.
Look again, you already have parents, who do that, so it is possible. But what relationships? Yes, it is difficult and rare… But weren’t a lot of things difficult before they became possible?
Was it possible for you to try bungie jumping until you tried it? Was it possible or imaginable to get over a break-up until you did?
All I am saying is… It is tough, but is there anything better than hope and trying? Is giving up really the way out? It might not hurt, but it wouldn’t bring you happiness either.
