In a shocking revelation, passing
percentage of class X CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) in academic
session 2018-19 has come down from 93.12 percent in 2017-18 to 86.70 percent.
With exception to Delhi region, all the regions have shown a downfall in
results with lesser number of students passing the examination.
Ajmer region that cover Rajasthan, Gujarat,
Madhya Pradesh, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, has a steep fall in the passing
percentage from 97.73 percent to 91.86 percent. This fall of 5.87 percent was
unexpected for schools and a definite shock to many, who had been celebrating
having 100 percent passing percentage for decades.
In comparison with other regions, Ajmer
region has performed a little above average. The biggest fall is seen in
Dehradun region with a fall of 17.69 percent. Dehradun region covers Uttrakhand
and Western Uttar Pradesh i.e. Badaun, Baghpat, Bijnour, Bulandshahr,
GautamBudh Nagar(Noida), Ghaziabad, Hapur, J.P.Nagar/Amroha, Meerut, Moradabad,
Muzaffarnagar, Rampur, Saharanpur, Sambhal and Shamli.
The only region that did not record a
downfall in the passing percentage is Delhi. It recorded an improvement in
passing percentage of 0.49 percent.
When analysed on gender basis, the passing
percentage of boys is much lower than girls. In comparison with previous
academic session, performance of boys has fallen much more than girls.
The passing percentage of girls fell from
92.55 percent to 88.67 percent. This recorded a downfall of 3.88 percent in
girls overall.
The passing percentage of boys fell from
93.51 percent to 85.32 percent. This recorded a downfall of 8.19 percent in
boys overall.
In Ajmer region, girls passing percentage
fell from 98.38 percent to 94.62 percent recording 3.76 percent fall. Passing
percentage of boys in the region fell from 97.33 percent to 90.07 percent,
recording a fall of 7.26 percent.
The possible reason for this fall in
percentage is return of board exams after eight years of optional boards. The
board had made attempting board exams for class X mandatory for students and was
re-introduced in 2018 academic session.
The dual scheme of examination for Class X
known as Scheme-I and Scheme-II was discontinued for the students, which had
made class X board quite easy for students with the option of school
examination.

Slight improvement in class XII
performance
Class XII board examination showed an improvement
in passing percentage. The overall percentage grew up from 81.67 percent to 83.01
percent. Ajmer region improved from 84.69 percent to 86.76 percent.
