Indian army collaborating with some local cyclists intends to throw seed balls in various unexplored areas around the city in the coming weeks.
This was decided on a joint ride organised by Major General at Indian Army Om Prakash Gulia and cycling group coordinator professor Manoj Mishra.
About 50 cyclists started the ride from Vijay Nagar at 5 am. Covering Regional Park, Rau and Defence Services Officers Institute (DSOI Square, Mhow, the cyclists reached Choral Resort/Jam Gate at 7 am. Coordinating from DSOI, Gulia had also arranged for refreshments for cyclists.
Admiring the beauty of Choral and nearby forests, the cyclists discussed various environment issues. “It is sad to see the beautiful Choral river suffering the consequences of deforestation by humans,” Dr RB Singh said. He talked about previous visit, when the river was surrounded by variety of trees.
“We are already suffering by leaving no sight of trees in major urban areas, and we end up with no areas in such nature-escapes then life cannot sustain for long on earth,” Mishra said.
Comrade Ashutosh Vyas suggested reviving these places by throwing seed balls. “They have about 50 percent survival rate and cyclists can easily spread these seed balls in even remote areas, while enjoying a scenic ride,” he said.
Further, chipping in from the armed forced, Gulia said, “Even the army would be happy to contribute in spreading the seed balls.” Both the groups decided to come together and take up the task of spreading seed balls, which will be arranged by local cyclists through their connections.
“We are hoping to bring a positive change and add forestation to our goals along with saving fuel and cycling to work,” both the group concluded with the decision.
