Indore’s classical dance teacher Smriti Aditya taught 500 Russian and Uzbek students under Indian Cultural Council Association (ICCA) in Uzbeskistan. The month-long training concluded on Sunday, where Smriti talked about her love for country and mentioned Indore as the city of dreams.
Smriti gives credit to the opportunity to Indore, as she discovered the art in the city after moving from Orai, UP.
“My parents (Aruna and Suresh Aditya) had decided to move to Indore to get more exposure and better future after I had completed schooling,” Smriti said. She had seen a room full of dancers practising in Govt Maharani Laxmi Bai Girls PG College.
“From years of training in Indore, I finally got this opportunity this year to represent the city that inspired me and our great country,” Smriti said.
Sharing her experience with international students, she talked about language barrier. “Neither Russian nor Uzbek students can communicate properly in English nor Hindi, so I was afraid of teaching them without communication,” said Smriti.
Her fears flew away, when her guru Dr Suchitra Harmalkar had explained the true meaning of dance. “Dance is an essential means that connects us to each-other, environment and every living being, so I have connected with them through dance,” Smriti said.
