The great feast of ‘The Most Holy Body and Blood of Jesus Christ’ (Corpus Christi) was celebrated with fervour and message of togetherness by Christian community. The grand fest of the community was organised at St Joseph's Church, Nandanagar.
Christian community members and followers of faith gathered at the church 7:30 am in front of the social welfare centre for a majestic and sacred procession. The community members worshipped the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. Rev father (Fr) Thomas Rajamanikam and Rev Fr Selvin Drazon carried the Blessed Sacrament and the people spread red and blue carpets, and the flower girls and boys put flowers to honour and adore Jesus Christ. They bowed and worshipped when the Holy Sacrament was carried in the middle between the two lines. All the people said prayers and sang ‘Bhajans’ (devotional songs) and glorified the saviour.
Following that, the community members celebrated a solemn Holy Mass in the Church where they received the Body and Blood of Christ.
In his address, Rajamanikam explained the importance and meaning of the feast. “Corpus Christi is a Christian liturgical solemnity celebrating the Real Presence of the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ in the elements of the Eucharist.” Two months earlier, the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper is observed on Maundy Thursday in a sombre atmosphere leading to Good Friday.
“The liturgy on that day also commemorates Christ's washing of the disciples' feet, the institution of the priesthood and the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane,” Rajamanikam said. He explained that the act and feast teaches us to be humble and respect every soul irrelevant of their knowledge and materialistic place in the world.
The Church hosted Christian community members from all over the city. Concluding the event, followers received the holy Prasad from the priests. Further, they wished each other and returned to celebrate with their family at the end of the church celebration.
