Indore has recorded the lowest admission enrolments under RTE in the state this year with 2,911 seats allotted under Right to Education (RTE) Act still empty, as applicants do not register admission. This means about 32 percent allotted seats have no takers in the district.
“Not allotted a quality school of their choice is a major reason behind people not registering admission despite having gone through the entire process of allotment and being selected in the lottery system,” district program coordinator (DPC) Akshay Singh Rathore gave the possible reason.
The same reason was discussed in the meeting on suggestions for Education Policy 2019 headed by Manish Verma, Joint Director of School Education Department, Indore. “There are many private schools, which are running simply for getting grants through RTE and lacking in quality education and infrastructure,” he said.
Under their suggestions, the department even suggested a modification in RTE in education policy to reserve seats in only renowned and quality schools.
Currently, there are 24,729 seats empty in various schools in the state that have been reserved by the department under RTE. None of these seats found takers despite the extended datelines for enrolling and confirming admissions.
Gwalior has recorded second lowest takers for RTE seats with 1243 seats, i.e. 25 percent seats remaining empty. In numbers, state’s capital Bhopal stands at second place with 2,497 seats remaining empty with no takers. Though, the overall percentage of students’ admissions enrolling in allotted schools is about 79 percent.
The highest taker for admissions under RTE is recorded in Dindori district with 32 seats remaining empty and enrolment by 96 percent students. Annupur district has second highest enrolments with 42 seats remaining empty and enrolment by 96 percent students.
The average number of students enrolling their admissions under RTE in state is 86 percent. There is not even district in state that has recorded 100 percent enrolments in allotted schools!
