On the second Monday of Shravan, devotees of Shiva from all age-groups observed a fast. Participating in various rituals, people prayed to lord Shiva to guide them in their life.
Most temples in the city thronged with devotees in the morning for ‘Rudra Abhishek’ and then in the evening for chanting mantras and singing bhajans.
In Geeta Bhawan temple, Rudra Abhishek was done with special 11 items. Head priest of the temple Kalyan Dutt Shastri said, “Rudra Abhishek is an extremely important as a ritual, which is considered to be one of the finest, purest and compelling ritual in Hinduism.”
He noted that Flowers, ghee, curd, honey, fresh milk, panchamrit, rose water, sugar candy, coconut water, Ganga Jal, camphor and holy ash were used for the special Abhishek.
Shiva ligam was decorated forming a unique face at Khandeshwar Mahadev in Sukhliya. The special meditative face of ligam was prepared in the evening using various items of Rudra Abhishek.

At Vaishnavadham temple located in Bicholi Mardana, hundreds participated in Dudh (milk), Dahi (curd) and Jal (water) Abhishek of Shiva ligam.
In the ancient Kapleshwar Mahadev Temple located in Katju Colony, many young devotees were seen participating in rituals.
Head priest of the temple Sunny Sharma said, “We had special Abhishek with coconut water and it is becoming a trend that many young devotees fast and pray to lord Shiva to find their perfect mate.”
Gopeshwar Mahadev, located in Gandhi Hall premises, was decorated as Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, Ujjain. Priest of the temple Dinesh Ojha said, “Lord Mahakal is known to be the most humble and empathetic, if we just recreate the image in our mind, we can get his ‘Darshan’. This was our attempt to help those people, who cannot go to Ujjain, to get a preview and connect with Mahakal here.”
In Chaupan Dham temple at Vijay Nagar, hundreds participated in chanting of Mahamrityunjaya Mantra. The mantra is said to be beneficial for mental, emotional and physical health and to be a moksha mantra which bestows longevity and immortality, as shared by priest Punit Dwivedi.
