Weather kept surprising people as the day began with a
bright scorching sunlight and clear skies, but within minutes the clouds took
over and suddenly the streets and gardens were waterlogged. Wondering whether
to expect sunshine or rains? Expect both and especially moderate rains to
continue for the coming week, as forecasted by regional met department.
The downpour brought down the maximum temperature to 29.6
degree Celsuis, which is three degrees below the normal temperature on this
day. Though it was expected that this lowering temperature would bring relief
to residents, humidity that stayed between 90 percent (morning) and 84 percent
(evening) did not bring the expected coolness.
The rain recorded on Sunday was 7 mm (0.27 inch) in the last
24 hours. With this, the rains have crossed 52 inch (1322 mm) mark in total
rainfall recorded in monsoon this season.
The meteorological department said city will witness similar
weather condition for next few days. “Due to increase in temperature and
humidity, moisture is received from cyclonic circulation in Bay of Bengal. It
is causing rainfall. Intermittent rain is occurring across the state and
conditions will remain same for next couple of days,” a department official
said, adding, “This year, the rainfall may break record of 2013, which was 55
inches before monsoon withdrawal.”
The minimum temperature recorded on Sunday was 21 degree Celsius,
which was at par with normal.
