Helping three others live on, another ‘Green Corridor’ was created in the city on Friday to transport both the kidneys and liver of 65-year-old businessman from Rajasthan. The city set another record 38th green corridor was created in the city, being second this month.
Unlike most cases where descendants make the decision, Ashok Kumar Jain set an inspiring trend by instructing his family to donate his organs in such a case beforehand. Jain wanted to gift life to others and part with life blissful, as shared by the family members.
The first green corridor was created between CHL hospital and Choithram hospital at 2:47 pm.
“One kidneys of Jain was transported to a patient in Choithram Hospital within 10 minutes and was successfully transplanted,” Jitu Bagani, a volunteer facilitating the corridor, said.
“Another kidney was transplanted in a patient in Bombay hospital,” Bagani said. The kidney was transported in four minutes and further operated.
Jain’s liver saved the life of a 51-year-old man from Ujjain, who had been suffering from liver cirrhosis.
A businessman by profession, Jain was the resident of Pratapgarh, Rajasthan. The 65-year-old was diagnosed with brain hemorrhage. A brain hemorrhage is a type of stroke caused by an artery in the brain bursting and causing localized bleeding in the surrounding tissues. This bleeding kills brain cells.
“Jain came to Indore on September 19 for treatment of the hemorrhage,” Bagani said. The treatment was started immediately and as per his condition, surgery was suggested to alleviate swelling and prevent bleeding.
About 2 to 3 days back, Jain underwent the surgery at CHL hospital. “His condition deteriorated and he was declared brain dead at 2:35 pm on Friday,” Bagani said.
The consent for organ donation was signed by his daughter Rekha Jain (45), who lives in Indore with her husband. “The 37th green corridor, where Rakhbachand Jain donated his organs to save lives, was from our community and we knew about him. My father knew him personally and had instructed me to ensure that whenever he passes away, his organs are donated to help others live a better life,” Rekha said.
Jain is survived by wife, daughter and son.
