Giving saplings to people from all walks of life, Create Stories Social Welfare Society celebrated the last Sunday of November with people in different areas around the city including Tulsi Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Scheme no 78 and Scheme no 114. About 70 saplings were adopted by youngsters and seniors as friends whom they would care for.
Founder of Create Stories Deepak Sharma said, “Concerning the livelihood of saplings, not all of them were directly planted and instead given for adoption.” While most people adopted at least one sapling, some youngsters adopted three to five saplings labelling them as their ‘forever friends’.
The saplings were planted in discarded buckets. These buckets were primarily received to store paint. They were washed off and prepared for plantations.
Saplings of native trees to Indore including neem, tulsi, alovera, peepal (bodhi tree) and ashoka tree were adopted by residents. These trees can grow easily without too much care and hence were chosen for plantation.
Sharma said, “The importance of planting and caring for trees and not just adopting a plant with example of areas that lack green cover and tend to heat up in summers.”
Adopting three saplings, banker Rajendra Sisodiya said, “I have grown up surrounded by greenery and these little saplings are my best friends.” He explained that spending time around trees in his farm often relaxes him.
“I am taking these saplings home and they will be my new comforters, trees always care for us even in harsh weather,” homemaker Karuna Singh said.
Talking about the step every individual should take for environment, businessman Shankar Khatri said, “We all build our houses, whether small or big and provide a place for our family.” He explained that trees are a part of our family forever, who need our care as saplings and then grow up to provide for us.
“Today, we are building mansions and concrete till roads, and not leaving any space our important family member, i.e. trees,” college student Kunal Singh and 13-year-old Govind said. They explained that leaving five feet outside our main doors for trees would help us in keeping our house cool and provide natural shade in the passageway.
