CBSE Fit India School Week: Indore schools to step up

Schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Indore welcome ‘Fit India Week’ celebrations as directed by the board and quote how mental and physical health is essential for academic excellence.
CBSE decided that each year a total of 06 working days during the third and/or fourth week in November will be celebrated as “Fit India School Week” in all its affiliated schools. This movement therefore endeavours to alter this behaviour from ‘Passive Screen time’ to ‘Active Field time’ and the aim of the objective is to develop Sports Quotient among all the students to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
“Such movement will also in still in students the understanding for regular physical activity and higher levels of fitness enhancing in them self-esteem and confidence,” Dr Joseph Emmanuel, CBSE Director (Academics) wrote in the recently issued circular.
The circular adds that the board has also been decided to take-up ‘Ek Bharat – Shreshtha Bharat’ on day six of this program.
In the week-long program, schools must begin with yoga, freehand exercises, and educational seminars, further conduct ‘Fitness Assessment’ of students through Khelo India app.
To celebrate the Unity in Diversity of our Nation and to maintain and strengthen the fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds between the people of our Country; Engagement Matrix between States and UTs have been done.
Against each pair of State/UTs, the suggestive traditional games list too has been given. Schools may engage its students in minimum one game of its choice from the partner state. Children, parent and teacher participants may also participate in exploring the history and interesting facts of the indigenous games from partner States.
The board along with schedule for the week has also released state-specific indigenous game list. The list for Madhya Pradesh quotes inclusion of the following games during the week-long celebration:
Gilli Danda, Sitholia
Gutte (Small Stones)
Poshampa, Langri, Stapu
Ghera Rolling (Tyre Rolling)
A brief about the activities undertaken and related pictures/videos be uploaded to the board’s link as provided in the circular.
Welcoming the move, Indore Sahodaya complex of CBSE schools president Reena Khurana said, “Indore schools are already leading in taking initiatives for environment, fitness being another one of our targets.” She added that most schools conduct regular fitness activities and this would be taken by all the schools.
“Fitness is must for a child to be mentally and physically well and it helps the children in giving their best in all the activities including academics,” Reena said.
