Bothered by the rising temperature and declining resources, two 16-year-old school students are not just willing to march for climatic change but march towards bringing a change. Harshit Goyal and Tashiv Patel are studying in different schools but have been facing problem ignoring the problem of climate change.
Taking a decision to change the current misuse of our resources, the duo researched various ways to live in sync with environment and control our carbon footprint. In an attempt to get these suggestions to limelight, they have declared a climate strike by organising a march from Tower Square to Collectorate on Friday.
The students have written a letter to be submitted to Collector. The students along with their group are willing to help administrations in bringing the change.
With their persistent efforts, they have gathered 200 people to support the cause and take an action for environment.
What are they promoting?
Use of eco-friendly material, reducing carbon emissions, taking serious steps and actions against de-forestation, Protecting the natural habitat of aquatic animals, reducing the consumption of meat and moving towards a vegan life, asking people to bring small changes in there regular life and moving towards sustainable living.
Further, covering all the SDGs defined by United Nations.
Demanding the Prime Minister to declare an immediate climate emergency in India.
Eating a vegan diet could be the “single biggest way” to reduce your environmental impact on the earth, a new study suggests. Researchers at the University of Oxford found that cutting meat and dairy products from your diet could reduce an individual's carbon footprint from food by up to 73 per cent.
What’s Indore doing right?
a) Cleanest city (good waste management)
b) Plastics are banned and promoting reusable materials.
c) Electric Vehicles (currently 40 buses)
Suggestions for taking the next step for Indore’s environment
a) Increase the green cover of the city which is so important. Currently it's just 13% or less as per their research.
b) Need protected cycle paves on main roads, promoting walking, cycling and sustainable lifestyle.
c) Electronic crematorium or necropolis to protect especially green cover
d) Policies and actions on pollution also because 26th November is known for environment protection day and the theme was air pollution. Vehicle per capita is the highest in the state. Promoting and providing more public transport facilities to beat the increasing number of vehicles in the city.
e) Protection of water bodies, rivers, lakes, and ponds by removing encroachments.
f) Promoting plantation and rainwater harvesting
