Christmas celebrations: inspiration from real-life to making bio fuel


On the theme of Christmas, an interactive seminar and sapling gifting ceremony was organised at Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development on Monday. During the seminar, 50 college students learned about utilising solar power and gained motivation from the life of Padma Shri Dr Janak Palta McGilligan.
Students were excited to see the 19 street lights powered generated with a Hybrid Solar and Wind Power being supplied by her to 50 landless tribal families of Village Sanwadiya for the last 9 years free of charge.
Centre’s managers Nanda and Rajendra demonstrated making of energy efficient bio fuel  with used newspapers and farm- biomass   that  brings down  deforestation reduce indoor air pollution,  generation of waste, and improve the health of those cooking on smoke .
Motivating students from her life experiences, Janak shared:
·         How she survived an open –heart surgery at the age of 15 when she resolved thanking God for another life by following a path of service having embraced Baha’i Faith in 1981
·         Moved from profession to service for women empowerment and tribal training in 1985, and marrying another Baha’i Pioneer from UK.
·         Survived 4 surgeries of cancer and that motivated her to promote healthy lifestyle.
