Girls take lead and bag the winning title at Baja Saeindia: Team E-Ziba Racers from Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Andhra Pradesh, won eBaja in the 13th edition of Mahindra Baja Saeindia 2020

A new record was created in the history of Baja Saeindia as girls team, Team E-Ziba Racers from Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Andhra Pradesh, won eBaja in the 13th edition of Mahindra Baja Saeindia 2020 in Pithampur on Monday. The team was declared the ‘Best eBAJA Team’. Team Predators from DY Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi, Pune, won mBAJA and were declared as ‘Best mBaja Team’.
It was the sixth edition of eBAJA, which aims to provide a platform to promote electric mobility in India. The event saw participation from four colleges from Madhya Pradesh.
A total of 282 teams had registered in the 13th year of BAJA SAEINDIA series, out of which 253(including 120 teams for mBAJA and 53 teams for eBAJA in Pithampur and 80 teams for Chitkara University round) teams qualified for the finals. Total 86 teams (including 76 teams for mBAJA and 10 teams for eBAJA) made it to Endurance round. This year was remarkable as more than 5,000 students and faculty from different parts of the country took part in the even themed as Breaking Conventions.
The objective of the competition was to simulate real world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Each team’s goal was to create a safe, easily transported, easily maintained and fun to drive prototype without direct involvement from professional fabricators.
The teams were free to design their own transmissions with the only restriction being the speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour. During the final, dynamic evaluation round tested vehicles for acceleration, manoeuvrability, rock crawl, suspension and traction.
Engineering students need practical experience to succeed
Dr Pawan Goenka, managing director of Mahindra, said, “Competitions such as Baja Saeindia help students acquire much-needed real world experience, which is critical for their success in future. Practical experience gained in the event is extremely valuable for students to succeed in future companies.”  S Balraj, convener of the event, said aspiring engineers need practical opportunity, which the event gives.
On January 27-28, the shortlisted students of Baja Aptitude Test (BAT) will get an opportunity to be interviewed for employment with well-known organisations in the automotive sector. The selected engineers will get on the spot offer letters from the companies.
The second part of the 13th edition of Baja Saeindia 2020 is scheduled at Chitkara University near Chandigarh from March 6-9, 2020.
Other winners
Team Gyrfalcons from Modern Education Society's College of Engineering, Pune, bagged the Engineering Design Award for mBAJA and eBAJA. Team Ziba Racers from Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women won the Go Green-Emissions Award.
Team Acrostreak from Acropolis Institute of Technology & Research, Indore, bagged second position in eBAJA. Team Aryans from Government College of Engineering, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, stood second. Team SparkX Racing from Silver Oak College of Engineering & Technology, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, stood third in mBAJA.
