Nirbhaya's advocate & parents awarded, Prisoners trained & released, Parades, Celebrations & Cultural programmes mark Republic Day of India
City immersed in patriotic fervour and celebrated Republic Day by coming together as one in every form of celebrations on Jan 26. While some communities came together and organised gatherings and seminars, some inspiring residents reached out to special set of people to build a crime-free and stronger nation.
Among the major events in the city where the Indian flag was hoisted, Nirbhaya's parents and her prosecuting lawyer Seema Kushwaha hoisted the National Flag of India at Regal square on Republic Day. They were special guests for the tricolour campaign organised by Apna Group.
Every year some prisoners serving life sentences are released on the occasion of Independence Day and Republic Day. On this Republic Day, 23 prisoners serving sentences in the Central Jail and District Jail of Indore were released on Sunday.
In the grand celebrations at Nehru stadium, female police officers gave a brilliant display of arms and dazzled the audience. In the display of guns, the female officers team created the National Flag in the sky amusing everyone.
A feeling of belongingness and unity was seen among everyone when patriotic songs and culture performances were presented at the stadium.
Among other celebrations, fitness enthusiasts had a special Tricolour run and cycling events. Some gardens saw parades and gatherings taking pledge for Fit India.

Apna group Tiranga Abhiyan Samiti has invited Seema, who is leading the case and Nirbhaya's parents to hoist the flag on this Republic Day.
Nirbhaya's parents and advocate hoisted the largest tricolour in the city and probably state.
Seema stood with Nirbhaya's family every moment as a support, when the candle march for Nirbhaya first came out. Further she fought the case for Nirbhaya and helped her get justice.
On the occasion of flag hoisting, Rs 51,000 were given to the NGO of Nirbhaya by the organising group. Along with this, Seemawas awarded a sum of Rs 51,000 and a citation.
23 prisoners released with training to earn their livelihood
As per information received, a list of 23 such prisoners was sent to Bhopal. The 22 prisoners included in the list were serving sentence in the Central Jail, while one prisoner was in the District Jail.
After the approval from Bhopal, these prisoners were released on the occasion of Republic Day on 26 January.
All the prisoners being released on the Republic Day were punished under the crime of murder (Sec.-302 of IPC). They have served the sentence from 14 years to 20 years. The remaining punishment of these prisoners has been pardoned by the state government.
Impunity has not been granted to the prisoners punished for rape and POCSO cases. The prisoners being released on the Republic Day were trained for tailoring, carpentry, black smith, masonry, building material manufacturing etc. during their detention in jails to enable them to earn their livelihood after release.
