Tiger Strike Force arrested two people involved in illegal wildlife trade of Pangolin via online streaming platform YouTube in an undercover operation

Not just businesses, but even illegal trades are now being conducted via online platforms. State Tiger Strike Force arrested two people involved in illegal wildlife trade of Pangolin via online streaming platform YouTube in an undercover operation. The two accused were produced in front of special court in Sagar on Tuesday and then sent remand.
Officials on the team shared that the duo was involved in illegal trade of wildlife and their essential parts. As per information shared by Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) (Wildlife), the department had received information about some individuals involved in illegal through online platform YouTube. 
To investigate further, the team of Tiger Strike Force took an action on June 27. Tracing the illegal traders, the two accused were caught at Pauhari-Shivpuri Marg (Shivpuri bypass) joint action by Indian Police Service (IPS) and Tiger Strike Force, Sagar. 
Further, on investigation one of the accused was found with carrying Pangolin scales. The scales were to be weighing 2.7 kilograms. 
Further, a case was registered against the two accused. As shared by DCF, the two accused were identified as follows: 
First accused: Sher Singh alias Sheru, son of Vijay Singh Dhakad. He is from Vijaypur, Sheopur.
Second accused: Accused poacher and lawyer, who is the son of Pappu Mongiya. He is a resident of Dharapur, Rajasthan.
There have been several cases of trafficking of rare species of wild species Pangolins coming up and busted by Tiger Strike Forces, MP.
As shared by DCF, “Till date 164 accused have been arrested from 12 states of the country.” He added that Pangolins are often highly hunted. 
“They are hunted because of their skin, scales, meat, and some of their body parts are used in making traditional medicine,” DCF said. He added that due to poaching the number of pangolin has seen a major drop in the world.
“Pangolins are now under threat of becoming extinct, for all the eight species,” DCF said. The investigation showed that scales and other parts of Pangolins were being smuggled to other countries in Asia and Africa. 
“Maximum demand for Pangolin’s parts comes from China, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Vietnam etc,” DCF shared.
Interrogations of the accused in the process. Forest department is trying to collect evidences and links to the entire gang, which is known to be selling parts of wild animals via YouTube.
As per TRAFFIC’s latest study, about 90 cases of pangolins seizures in India were recorded in the nine-year study period. Of this, majority (83) were of pangolin scales, clearly indicating that scales are the main pangolin product trafficked in India.
Further, the report said that the majority of 44 seizures that took place were from southern and central parts of India including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu.
