Recently, an injured leopard as rescued from Nayapura forest of Kampel. The leopard was seriously injured in this battle of supremacy, which was rescued by the Forest Department team and taken to the city zoo Indore. Though it was reported to have been injured in infighting, it seems doubtful as only leopard’s face and mouth was injured.
The injured leopard is being treated in Indore city zoo, but its condition is risky. On the positive note, the leopard is eating properly. However, he seems to have lost vision in both his eyes permanently.
City zoo in-charge Dr Uttam Yadav is still hoping to restore his eye sight. The leopard needs to be taken to the state veterinary hospital in Bhopal for MRI. Transporting the leopard seems like a tough job, so city zoo is currently writing a letter to Bhopal team requesting assistance.
Yadav shared that that the leopard underwent an operation. After which, it was expected that his eyesight will return. “However, the leopard still detects food by the smell and unable to see and grab it like he must,” Yadac said.
But till date, the leopard is unable to see anything with both eyes. “When we found him, his left eye had already lost vision, but we hoped to restore his right eye,” Yadav said.
Doctors of Veterinary College, Mhow had also visited city zoo to examine the leopard.
After contacting the State Veterinary Hospital, Bhopal, further information will be obtained from the MRI.
The future of leopard and his condition situation will become very clear after the MRI and X-rays of the leopard.
As shared by Dr Uttam Yadav, city zoo in-charge, leopard is an adult male of about 7 to 8 years. “Leopards generally live for 14 to 15 years, so the leopard is in the prime of his life,” he said.
