Hanging a bottle filled with red-coloured water is a trend seen in many colonies in the city, it is believed to ensure that dogs do not shit in front of the house. This trend was seen in Krishi Vihar, Kanadiya Road, Tilak Nagar, Sainath Colony, Usha Nagar, Venkatesh Nagar and Mahalaxmi Nagar.
Pramila Jain, a homemaker, residing in Usha Nagar said, “Dogs shitting around the house is irritating and as I heard from someone, I hanged this red-coloured water filled in the bottle.” She added that dogs often come around the house, but never shit around anymore.
“After closing my centre, I hang this bottle so that dogs do not shit in front of my centre, and this bottle actually works!” Paras Jain, owner of car service centre at Kanadiya road, said.
With similar beliefs, a shop owner Ankit Maheshwari in Venkatesh Nagar and Vrinda Shukla in Mahalaxmi Nagar religiously hang the bottles.
No scientific basis
“There is no scientific reason behind such ideas. Dogs generally have a fixed place for shitting, which is generally open plots or grasslands. Dogs are colour blind. They have no rod cells, which enables visibility of colour. Coloured water in bottles does not affect a dog as such.”
