Two-day Guru Nanak Prakash Parv celebrations began at Guru Tegh Bahadur Stadium in Rajmohalla on Sunday. Sikh community members gathered at the stadium to celebrate the auspicious day of enlightenment.
The entire stadium was decorated with flowers and lights. Shri Guru Singh Sabha Indore chairman Manjit Singh Bhatia and general secretary Jasbir Singh Gandhi shared, “Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab is celebrated across the globe by the followers of Sikhism to mark the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev.” They added that it is one of the holiest festivals for the Sikh community which falls every year on the full moon day of Kartik month, as per the Hindu calendar.
“Guru Nanak Dev was a preacher of peace and harmony and his teachings are preserved in the holy texts, known as Guru Granth Sahib,” they said.
Bhai Tawneet Singh (Chandigarh) will recite the ‘Shabad kirtan’. “As the sun rises, darkness automatically vanishes, similarly the darkness of ignorance vanishes with the arrival of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj,” he said.
In the evening, Bhai Gurdeep Singh narrated description of the birth of Guru Nanak.
The three pillars of Sikhism that were shared in the sermon were:
· Vand Chhako- Sharing with others, helping those with less or those who are in need.
· Kirat Karo (work diligently)- Earning/making a living honestly, without exploitation or fraud.
· Naam Japo (contemplating God's names)- Meditating on God's name to control the five evils and living a satisfying life.
