Guru Gobind Singh Ji Prakash Gurupurab: Teachings from his life & celebrations of the special birth anniversary
Commencing the celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh Prakash Gurupurab, Sikh community gathered at Gurudwara Topkhana Sahib on Tuesday. Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth Sikh Guru, a spiritual master, warrior, poet and philosopher.
When his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was executed by Aurangzeb, Guru Gobind Singh was formally installed as the leader of the Sikhs at the age of nine, becoming the tenth and final human Sikh Guru.
To remember the life lessons taught by the Guru, the community attended ‘kirtan’ and sang ‘bhajans’.
Guru Singh Sabha chairman Manjit Singh Bhatia and general secretary Jasbeer Singh Gandhi said, “The first Gurmati Divan of Guru Gobind Singh Prakash Gurpurab began with Kirtanakar Bhai Gurpreet Singh Baba Bakala wale’s address.”
Bhai Sarabjit Singh Ramdaspur, Gyani Nishan Singh Dhadi Varan, Gyani Tarsem Singh from Punjab gave special addresses.
‘Birathi kade na hovai jana ki ardas’ meaning ‘No one returns empty-handed from the lord. Every wish is fulfilled if one follows the path shown by the Guru’ was offered.
In the evening, Shri Guru Amardas Sahib Hall was decorated in which Gurmat ideology was explained by Gyani Nishan Singh, Head Granthi of Gurdwara Beed Baba Budka Sahib Ji, Amritsar.
Teachings from Guru Gobind Singh
· Do not gossip, nor slander, or be spiteful to anyone.
· Do not be proud of riches, youthfulness or lineage. (Regardless of maternal and paternal caste or heritage, all of the Guru's Sikhs are siblings of one family.)
· When dealing with enemies, practice diplomacy, employ a variety of tactics, and exhaust all techniques before engaging in warfare.
· Do as much possible to serve and aid foreigners, those in need, or in trouble.
· Realise that considering a daughter as property is poison.
· Donate a tenth of your earnings.
· Do not ruin anyone's work by gossiping.
