Indore’s classical dancers were honoured with Natyakala Shikharojwala and Narthana Achintya titles in one of the most famous all-India dance festivals.
Margazhi is one of the most popular seasons for Indian dance and music. It has been around for more than 90 years. Every Margazhi season various cultural organizations hold dance and musical festivals showcasing dancers and musicians from around the world.
Rangaramanuja veekayes productivity and cultural council (Chennai) along with SKS cultural foundation (Chennai), Sainadha kala samithi (Vishakhapatnam) and Sugabala Sangeeth Academy (Mumbai) organized international ‘Margazhi Kadambothsavam fest’ in the season.
The organisers picked out classical dancers and performers from around the world to participate in the fest and portray their skills. In the festival, classical dancer Ashish Pillai from Indore was felicitated and honoured with title of Natyakala Shikharojwala.
He was honoured with the title for moulding his disciples with intricate nuances of dance and passing on Indian traditions.
During the festival, Pillai’s disciple Kanitha Shivakumar gave beautiful bharatnatyam performance and was bestowed with title of ‘Narthana Achintya’ given to emerging young dancers.
Kanitha has been learning Bharatnatyam since last 6 years and has won various prizes at national and international dance competition. The awards were announced in virtually held event.
