More than 8 lakh tree saplings die in Indore division in 4 years; Forest dept to test soil & prepare better plan
Millions of plants are planted in the forests every year, but thirty to forty percent of the plants are destroyed or they do not grow properly. Their number has reached more than eight lakhs in the last four years. Now the forest department has decided that soil testing of each location will be done before plantation. This work will be completed by April, so that the percentage of plantation can be increased.
Every year lakhs of saplings are planted all over the state. About 8-10 lakh saplings are planted in the Indore, Choral, Mhow and Manpur ranges coming into the Indore forest division. It is done to grow trees in mass and create forests. Foresters plant any species at the place of plantation without conducting soil test. In this case, the percentage of their withering and destruction is high. But this time it is being vigilant.
On the instructions of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dr Kiran Bisen, soil is being investigated for most of the site before the plantation to be held in June. College of Agriculture is helping in soil testing. This work is to be completed by the forest workers before April.
According to the officials, the lacunae are to be filled behind the investigation. In the investigation, the amount of potassium, minerals, zinc, Manganese is found, so that these shortcomings can be made through manure.
Collecting samples
There are about 20 to 30 main plantation sites in the Indore forest division, which have been identified by the department. Soil samples are being collected from here. After investigation, the department will determine plant species at these places. Based on that, plants will be planted in these places.
To register the name in the Guinness Book, one crore plants were planted in the state in 2016 and six crore saplings in 2017 in a day, which included 22 lakh plants both years in the Indore forest division.
In 2018, the Congress government was formed, which conducted an investigation to know the reality of these plantations, in which the number of plants was found less in many places. However, later the department had re-planted new plants in place of the destroyed plants.
Will conduct soil test
According to the rules, soil testing has to be done before planting saplings, which this time is essentially called forest workers. Through this, the soil deficiencies will be filled with manure. Even soil-friendly plant species will be planted at the said location.
