Scholarships were distributed to 14 lakh 53 thousand eligible students studying in the state's government schools from ninth to twelfth on Friday.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan gave scholarship amounts to the students using internet banking. The total amount sanctioned was Rs. 344 crore.

In the virtual program held at 4:30 pm, scholarship amount was given to the students studying in class IX to XII. The event was earlier scheduled to be held on February 24, but the schedule was postponed as most children’s bank profile was not updated.

School education department had earlier instructed all districts on the education portal to update the list of students by February 15, but it did not happen as per schedule.

After this, all the districts were instructed to update the students' profiles by February 24, but again it was delayed.

The profile of 21 lakh students was updated till Friday. Now the school education department is increasingly assigned staff for the duty of profile updation of students.

The target was to enroll about 1.42 million students on the education portal. But till date, about 1 crore 36 lakh have been recorded only.

At the same time, the profile updation has been completed for 21 lakh students. The department issued orders to the joint directors and district education officers of all the districts on the portal to update the profile as soon as possible.

Every year the government spends Rs 700 crore in 28 different schemes. Scholarships ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 500 are given to students.

Last year’s 2.2 million children were given scholarships last month

The outstanding scholarship of 22 lakh children of the academic session 2019-20 was paid in last month. The department has not received Rs 200 crore for 22 lakh children eligible for scholarship in the last academic session from the government till January 2021.

40,000 students in Indore received scholarships

In Indore, there are more than 2.5 lakh students who are eligible for government scholarships. On the first click of sending scholarships to students on Friday, about 40,000 students received the scholarship amount in their accounts, said Narendra Jain, additional district project coordinator (ADPC).

He added that there would be at least three more rounds of ‘One Click Scheme’ after which most students would have received their scholarships. “As the government remunerates funds, the department has one click scheme under which we try to cover all the students and provide scholarships to them at earliest,” Jain said.
