Class X board examinations of CISCE board India cancelled, class XII board examination postponed, Admissions for class XI to begin
Given the present worsening situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) decided to cancel the ICSE (Class X) 2021 examination on Tuesday.
Class X ICSE board exams have been cancelled because of the worsening situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The board had earlier given students the option of sitting for the exam at a later date. Those who didn’t choose to appear for the exam would have been evaluated on a “fair and unbiased” criterion, the board had said on Friday. This decision now stands withdrawn.
“Given the present worsening situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the CISCE has decided to cancel the ICSE (Class X) 2021 examination. The options given earlier… now stand withdrawn. The safety and wellbeing of our students and teaching faculty is our topmost priority and of paramount interest,” said CISCE.
Further the board announced that all CISCE affiliated schools (having the ISC section) are hereby advised to begin the admission process for class XI, if not already started. “In addition, schools should prepare a schedule to begin online classes for the class XI students at the earliest. The syllabus to be followed is the ISC 2023 syllabus,” the notification said.
The notification said that a fair and unbiased criterion to declare the class X result will be announced later, along with the date of the result declaration.
Indore schools welcomed the move and felt it was an apt decision considering the present circumstance. “Student’s health is more important and with more than 1,700 cases reported in a day in Indore, we need to carefully analyse and understand the need for being careful and following requisite prevention measures for controlling the outspread of coronavirus,” Yasmin, principal of a CISCE affiliated school in Indore, said.
She added that following other national board, i.e. Central Board of Secondary Education and state boards including Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education’s announcement, most schools estimated that CISCE will follow the footsteps and cancel class X examination.
“Assessment is essential, no doubt about it, but currently, we cannot afford to delay the examinations indefinitely and then expect students to complete the combined course of class XI and class XII in the allotted time, so it is an acceptable and pragmatic decision,” Yasmin said.
“We had prepared for examinations really well, so we were hoping to attempt the examination but also, we don’t want to be a cause for further spread of coronavirus that is taking lives everyday,” a group of students including Anjali, Jahnvi and Krishma, said.
