Foresters back out from special corona duty as they were not vaccinated & not considered front line warriors, despite duty last year in Indore, Madhya Pradesh
The forest workers who are hired for supervising the forest areas will now be on special duty for Corona. Most foresters are nervous about catching the infection.
The forest workers are agitated and losing their temper after receiving the order. The reason for their agitation is that foresters were not considered frontline warriors despite being on special duty and serving the city during the last year.
The reason for forest workers avoiding the corona duty is that they are not vaccinated. Moreover, especially, the young forest workers feel it would risk their life and impact their family.
The forest workers have protested in front of senior officials. On the other hand, some people have sent applications for withdrawal of duty.
A list of forest workers has been made for the duty of corona in the Indore forest division, out of which some people have been removed from the forest.
More than 80 forest workers have been selected for duty, with a list of 50 people till May 15. So far 35 forest workers have been sent for duty at different places. The forest workers have protested. Representatives said that most forest workers have not been vaccinated.
Whereas for vaccinations two applications were also made in front of the Conservator of Forests and the Chief Conservator of Forests. But according to some officials, the employees of the forest department are not considered as front line warriors.
Vaccination camp was not organized in the forest department like other departments. Now the forest workers are getting scared of being a part of special duty for corona.
Abhijeet Pandey, general secretary of the Youth Congress, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
There are fire incidents in the forest due to heat. Incidents may increase if staff is removed from the forest. Some forest workers have also spoken to senior officials for this. For this, the officials have assured them and asked them to stay on duty for forest department for some days.

“I have requested to the administration, insisting on deployment of duty only after both the doses of the vaccine have been administered. I urge the administration to engage only the minimum required staff if need be, and that too only the ones who have been vaccinated.
At the same time, many staff members are suffering from the viral infection. Hence, they are genuinely requesting to be not enrolled or requisitioned for this special duty.
The forest staff has already played a significant role during the earlier wave. Looking at the pace of the spread and the extent of the spread, getting vaccinated beforehand seems to be a workable solution.
At this grim situation coordinating with administration and with utmost precautionary measures seems to be the priority.”
