On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, many major events organised in temples were telecast live for the devotees on Tuesday.
In view of Janta curfew enforced in the city to control the spread of coronavirus, live telecast feeds were arranged by the temples. Like last year when the country was under lockdown, special efforts were made by temples to enable the devotees sitting at home to participate in rituals and festivities of Hanuman Jayanti.
Hanuman Jayanti festival is always celebrated with fervour and enthusiasm in Hanuman temples. Usually, devotees throng into temples in large numbers for a glimpse of lord Hanuman’s darshan and recitation of Hanuman Chalisa, Rama Raksha Stroth and especially Sundarakand recitations organised in many temples in the city.
People organised worship of lord Hanuman at home as well. Some worshipped betel nut as a symbol, some had an idol and some worshipped a photograph.
The procession of special rituals started at the 132-year-old Ranjit Hanuman temple from midnight. Chief priest Dipesh Vyas said, “On Tuesday morning, the birth anniversary will be aarti was organised at 6 am then, at 10 pm, the idol was re-consecrated and decorated.” Kankad Aarti will be performed with 108 lamps at 6 o'clock on Wednesday morning.
“It is performed only on the second day of Hanuman Jayanti as per rituals,” Vyas said. He added that live feed was telecasted for devotees via social media.
There is a Hanuman statue installed about 400 years ago in Veer Bagchi, the western area of the city. This statue, which is about 5 feet large, is considered self-proclaimed. It is believed that this statue originated from the date palm tree.
Mahant Pawanand Brahmachari of the temple said, “11 Brahmins were anointed by Mahavira and on the birthday of lord Hanuman, the lord was adorned with 15 grams of gold.”
Mahaarti was performed at 7 in the evening then mahabhog was offered to the lord.
In Vidyadham temple, after 5 pm Shodashopachar Puja was performed and Sunderkand was recited at 8 pm.
In the ancient Panchmukhi Hanuman temple at Hansdas Mutt located in Jallian Khal Bada Ganapati from 6 to 9.30 am, the special recitation of Bajrang Baan was organised.
Pandit Pawan Sharma said, “The text of Bajrang Baan is generally prohibited and this lesson is done only to deal with special situations.” Due to coronavirus, it was read out.
