Indore: Jain community organises special day-long prayers led by 100 families to fight corona

With corona pandemic taking lives of over 3 lakh people in the country, Jain community came together and organised a day-long prayer session to seek the support of god to deal with the pandemic on Monday.

Over 100 families planned these organised prayers, which were led by each family in the session of 30 minutes.

Jinendra Lata Sogani began the prayer session at 8 am and urged people to meditate and strengthen their immunity. Further, Pratik Ekta Baj prayed to lord Mahavir to guide the human kind to fight the pandemic.

Shikharchand Anita Baj and Vishal Mona Baj continued the prayers and motivated the participants.

“Jain prayer is part of a being's spiritual development; it is a means to an end and not an end in itself,” Disha Gowadiya, a devotee, said.

“Jains do not pray to ask the tirthankaras for grace or material favours, but to inspire them in their practice. So, we hope to find the way and learn to fight the pandemic,” Abha Jain said.

Srishti Sogani, Rajesh Payal Kasliwal, Mona Mukesh Patn, Lalit Anita Badjatya, Sunil Tripti Sethi, Tej Kumar, Prema Badjatya and Kamla Dosi were other some families who participated in the prayers and led the sessions.

“The Ṇamōkāra mantra or Navkar Mantra is the most significant mantra in Jainism, and one of the oldest mantras in continuous practice. This is the first prayer recited by the Jains while meditating,” Shweta Patodi, another devotee, said.
