Following covid-19 outbreak, most festivities were on hold for a long-time and now, with Indore reporting a few cases at most, Raksha Bandhan was celebrated with fervour.
City immersed in the sibling love and also, used the festival to create new bonds. While some families gathered connecting five generations, many others launched donation drives and shared Rakhi kits with underprivileged.

Rakshak drivers and conductors
It was fun free day for women in Indore as Atal Indore City Transport Service Limited (AiCTSL) provided free travel to women in various city transport services.
On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, travel was made free for women in city buses, i-buses and electric buses operated in the city.
Furthermore, the large number of women travellers tied Rakhi to drivers and conductors thanking them for a safe ride. Women rejoiced and even celebrated the day sharing stories about their siblings.
Distributing Rakhi & sweets
Various donation drives were organised in the city distributing Rakhi kits and sweets to underprivileged families at various places especially Rajwada in the city.
One such organisation led by Pankaj Fatechandani said, “We prepared Rakhi Rakhi in the Vedic manner for families and gave it to them with a message.” They sent out the message for women safety.
One with special families
Following the tradition of 30 years, President of Sitlamata Bazar Hema Panjwani, Shailendra Porwal, Kamal Gupta, Mahendra Parikh, Kalu Sarda and Paritosh Rane celebrated Rakhi with families of leprosy patients.
Rakhi sweets, clothes and other necessary materials were provided for the leprosy family and their children.
All the children celebrated the festival as brothers promised to protect their sister.
Queues in front of sweet shops
Rakhi celebrations were seen in the markets of the city on Sunday morning. Sweets were sold in bulk for gifting and celebrating the fest.
From Nath Mandir to Vijay Nagar and from Sapna Sangeeta Road to Mhow Naka, people queued up to buy sweets in front of the sweet shops.
The stock of special sweets ran out of famous shops of the city by afternoon. People who reached the shops for their favourite sweets had to choose sweets from the available stock
Indore has some famous sweet shops in every area. Each one has its own famous sweets. There was a shortage of these in-demand sweets on Sunday.
5 ka punch Rakhi!
In many families, people gathered in large numbers. In one such Dalal family, people of five generations gathered.
The eldest in the family was Kanak Dalal, who is 78 years. The youngest, i.e. fifth generation being three-year-old Dhivi Haran.
4.5 kg Rakhi for Khajrana
This time a 4.5 kg rakhi was tied to Lord Ganesha on Raksha Bandhan at the famous Khajrana Ganesh temple in Indore.
It was made by Palrecha family. The family has been preparing Rakhi since 18 years. Every year, it is prepared on different themes.
This time of 40X40 inch Rakhi was prepared. It is shaped out of Ashtadhatu. Gold and silver were used to prepare the Rakhi with the idol of lord Krishna on the front.
Through Rakhi, the message of 'Karmanyevadhikaraste Maa Phaleshu Kadachanam' and ‘don't worry, I am there’ will be given to the public.
Cops protected us like bros in foreign land
Rescued Bangladeshi girls tied Rakhi to cops thanking them for protecting them.
In the year 2020, a racket of Bangladesh girls was caught by the Indore Vijay Nagar police for illegally crossing the border of India in different parts of the country for immoral acts.
In this, more than 20 girls were rescued from a hotel in Indore. The police were not getting any important clues from this racket, after which the police station in-charge exposed this whole racket by making two minor girls as sisters and promising to protect them.
Both the minor girls are presently in Indore. The cost of their maintenance is being done by the station in-charge Vijay Nagar only.
Both the Bangladeshi girls who came to the police station tied rakhi to Tehzeeb Qazi and also told him that such a brother should be found by all. “They are brothers who protected and cared for us more than a real brother would in a foreign country,” they said.
Chanda Cheetah Rakhi
Madhya Pradesh Forest Department tied 10,000 Rakhis featuring caricature version of Cheetah to members of local communities on Sunday.
With this, the department shared information about the Cheetah and its introduction in the Kuno and how this project will benefit community in future.
These Rakhis are a symbol of communities’ commitment towards successful introduction and protection of Cheetahs. Being an important ritual, the Raksha Bandhan brought love and affection among communities towards the Cheetahs.
In this way, Chanda sent Rakhis and her message to the communities about her arrival in the coming months in Kuno National Park and encourage the communities to welcome and protect her as their own.
