Indore airport will have another International terminal. Announcing this, Jyotiraditya Scindia, minister of state for civil aviation of India, noted that various achievements of the city during the launch of three flights from Indore to Prayagraj, Surat and Jodhpur on Sunday.

“We have requested Chief Minister to provide us 2,000 acre land in Indore, so that we can build the next International terminal in Indore,” Scindia said.

Further, labelling Indore as not mini Mumbai but mini India, Scindia announced an air bridge in Indore as well.

He noted various achievements of Indore and especially citing all the titles of Indore as being first in smart city, cleanliness, water plus city, etc.

Sharing statistics, Scindia said, “Despite being the most affected department, this industry (airlines and tours) has seen 50 percent growth in MP in the last four months and Indore has recorded 75 percent growth.”

He noted that in the last four months, 280 new flight movements were recorded in MP adding 22 new cities. “From Indore, in the last four months, the flight movement has increased from 12 to 19,” Scindia said.

“We are creating a network with Indore for flights, as it is the heart of India,” Scindia said.

Currently, Indore airport has a capacity of 40 lakh passengers in a year. To further add more international flights and routes, Scindia has sought land for terminal 2.0.

“We just started New farmers produce 2.0, where in not just cargo but even passengers airlines will carry farmer’s produce. Further, parking and landing charges have been made free to support farmers,” Scindia said.

Perishable cargo for farmer’s produce, flight to Dehradun

“The aim of India has always been to ensure that the person wear ‘Hawaii’ slippers can travel in Hawaijahaz (aeroplane). While congratulating and expressing gratitude for the new flights, I want urge the civil aviation minister to start a cargo facility for perishable goods from Indore. This would really support and help farmers in sending their produce overseas. Airport is going to work in PPP model soon. We need multi level parking here for the ease of tourists and receivers here. Further, I urge that the old terminal building is transformed into a straight hanger. When we have VIP visitors to the city, the additional terminal would ease transport for passengers and Indoreans. As per public demand, I urge that Dubai flight rounds are increased. Additionally, there is a need for direct flight from Indore to Dehradun as it would help people travelling to Haridwar and other places there.”

Flower export from Indore to Gulf

“Indore has a good flower production. These flowers are loved in Gulf countries. We can export roses, marigolds and other locally produced flowers. It would be too sudden to demand that Indore is connected to United States and United Kingdom immediately. But we should start thinking about it. Initially, we should increase our airport's capacity to handle these flights. We will not say start the flight today. But plan and try to start in a couple of years. Indore was cloth capital Indore once, now it is a trade centre. Connecting to Surat, the cloth business will get a boost.”
