Indore is gearing up for Diwali 2021 with idol preparations for Diwali Puja worship and special decorations.
On Diwali, Lord Ganesh is worshipped for new beginnings and Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped for wealth. In some households, even Goddess Saraswati is worshipped. She is considered the Goddess of knowledge, creative arts, wisdom, language, learning and purity.
Other than this, idols of Gwalin are bought home and used for puja. All these idols are under preparations in the city. While they will be prepared in a rather simplistic way this year, the artists hope that the idols will help them celebrate Diwali too.
Simplistic idols of Gwalin
Gwalin is an essential idol form of Laxmi that is worshipped in Madhya Pradesh. This year, Gwalin idols are more simplistic than previous years.
“We are keeping the cost low and still trying to prepare the idols, hence, the decoration is not much,” Jatin Kumar, an artesian, said.
Embossing gems on Laxmi and Ganesha idols
Sanjay Prajapati, another artisan who was painting clay images of Sun God sais, "The clay image has gained popularity in recent times. Though, it is not worshipped but is considered a part of the decoration in households.”
Hence, idols of Laxmi and Ganesha are being prepared with special decorations. “Often people place the idols in the main room of their house to invite luxuries,” Prajapati said.
