Forest department: Travelling about 1,350 kilometres from Bangalore to Madhya Pradesh, the most eye-drawing and mesmerising Large Oak Blue butterfly makes its way to the biodiversity of the state. For the first time ever, Large Oak Blue butterfly also known as Bangalore butterfly was recorded in a forest survey.

Travelling about 1,350 kilometres from Bangalore to Madhya Pradesh, the most eye-drawing and mesmerising Large Oak Blue butterfly makes its way to the biodiversity of the state. For the first time ever, Large Oak Blue butterfly also known as Bangalore butterfly was recorded in a forest survey.
About 51 species were recorded in the survey with some unique species.
This was recorded in the first Butterfly Survey Tamia conducted in November 2021. Starting from the foothill to the top of Tamia, a troupe of 15 volunteers from Wild Warriors along with forest officials and workers headed on 9 trails for conducting the survey.
There were three teams, each team constituted of 5 member s apart from the forest guards and workers
The survey was conducted for two days on the trails like Raja Kho and Jhingaria Nature Trail. The teams identified about 50-55 species of butterflies as well as some rare species.
Ishwar Jarande and HC Baghel headed the initiative from forest department. Sachin Matkar, Ritesh Khabia and Dr Vipul Kirti Sharma headed the teams from volunteers. \
The fascinating Large Oakblue butterfly
The Large Oakblue, Arhopala amantes is a species of lycaenid or blue butterfly. Arhopala amantes is largest lycanid in Sri Lanka.
You often feel illuded if you see this brilliant butterfly.It's surprisingly inconspicuous on the wing despite the brilliant metallic blue markings on its upper side. However, on the lower side, it’s brown like many other local moths and butterflies.
In the female, the blue scales are restricted to the center and basal part of both wings; the outer margins are marked by a wide black band. It is a butterfly of the canopy of small trees.
