The students are still sitting hungry and thirsty under the open sky in -6 degree temperature for more than 24 hours. Most of the students are from Indore.
Most students from Indore had an evacuation plan that was prepared by senior students and student exchange coordinators. However, those students who were from other states, especially Kerala, reported attacks on the Poland border.
“There was an intricate plan, which should be followed to safely evacuate,” Hrishikesh Tripathi, a student, said. He added that some students from other South Indian states didn’t join the Indian student congregation and paid the price.
A Malayali student Angel shared a video that alleged that the Ukraine military and police were beating students on the border. In the video, the girl claimed that students spotted in vehicles towards borders were attacked too. The Ukrainian armed forces are also allegedly firing in the air.
"Even I was beaten up by the military personnel and pushed to the road. One of my friends who reacted was also beaten and pushed to the road," said Angel.
A student from Indore, Shubham Jirati, described the condition of students there as, “We are sitting here at the Romania police border, about 400 Indian students crossing the border.”
He added that neither the Indian Embassy is getting us to cross the border nor is it giving any information about the flight back to India.
“It has been more than 24 hours since we have been sitting here in the open without any security,” Jirati said.
The temperature in Ukraine is -6 degrees and there is only one food outlet at this border check post, where the food has run out now.
“We need urgent help. Please help us. Do something to get us out of here. Please tell the Indian government about our situation,” Pranay Rao, another student, said.
The Ukrainian government is again planning to shut down airports. Due to this, flights from India and other countries will not be allowed to land.
Some routes of the flights were diverted and they were returned on the way.
