Our Colourful World! by Umme Hani Manleshwarwala

Colours play a vital role in our life, it is impossibleto imagine a colourless world. Colours reveal the true beauty of nature; it is due to colour that our beautiful planet Earth can be easily identified from space.
We love colours when they hum in solitude and we adore them when they come together to splash in wondrous combinations. We wear them, eat them, and imagine them all the time.
Colours are a powerful medium to convey moods, feelings and emotions.
We use the colour Red to demarcate areas, to indicate indebtedness, and even to point out the radical leftists. We have red balls in snooker and billiards, the bull’s eye is coloured red. This colour gives a feeling of warmth.
The colour Green goes way beyond just indicating envy and jealousy to talk about green policies, green architecture, green consumers, and even a green old age!
Blue is a colour often found in nature such as the pale blue of a daytime sky or the rich dark blue of a deep pool of water. We often describe this colour as calm and serene. Apart from the blues which we experience on Monday mornings!
The positive traits that colour White convey include cleanliness, freshness, and simplicity. This colour often seems like a blank slate, symbolizing a new beginning or a fresh start.
In ancient times colours were used to cure diseases. Chromo therapy, centuries-old concept is used successfully over the years to cure various diseases. This therapy was first practised by the Egyptians and Chinese. Chromo therapists claim to be able to use light in the form of colour to balance "energy" lacking from a person's body, thus colour is a power that directly influences the soul.
The first and the oldest colour named is bright pink pigment found in the rocks of Sahara in Africa. In science, colours are known as chromatics, colorimetric or simple colour. Colour entered English through Anglo Norman word ‘colour’. But colours speak all languages!
