Madhya Pradesh: Indore excels in Class 5 and Class 8 results with higher passing percentage than State's average
Students of Class 5 and Class 8 in Indore district perform better than most other district. The results of the board examination results bring glory to the city as Indore stands on fourth place in state in Class 8 results.
Class 5th and 8th exam results were announced by Chief Secretary School Education Rashmi Arun Shami on Friday afternoon.
In the state, Class 5 exam result was 90.01%, i.e. 7,44,247 students passed.
In Class 8, the result stood at passing percentage of 82.35%. In numbers, 6,23,370 students passed the examination in the state.
Hence, 82,694 students failed to clear Class 5 board examination in state. In Class 8, 1,36,837 students failed to clear the examination.
In Indore, the results were much above the state’s average result. More than 93.18 percent students of Indore district passed in Class 5.
There were in all 13,374 students who attempted Class 5 exams. Out of this, 12,464 students passed in the examination. Hence, 910 students will have to re-appear for Class 5 examinations in Indore.
In Class 8, the result for Indore district showed 93.93 passing percentage. There were total 13,334 students in Indore who attempted Class 8 exams. Out of this, 12,524 students were able to clear the examination.
Hence, 810 students of Class 8 will re-appear for examination.
Indore stood at fourth place following Narsingpur, Dhindori and Chinndwara in Class 8 result. In Class 5, Indore stood at 15th place in the state.

Panic on peak before the result
Students in Indore experience panic, excitement and nervousness before School Education Department was about to announce Class 5 and Class 8 board examination result at 2.55 pm on Friday for Madhya Pradesh. Many students approach student helpline numbers seeking counselling and help.
For these students, it was their first ever board examination. Himanshu Jadeja, a student of Class 8, said, “I usually score well in examination but I am scared of not doing so well as usual in board examination.” He was nervous during the examination and just recovering from covid-19 in third wave.
Another student Aishwarya R said, “I am scared of not scoring as well as normal. I gave my best but I am panicking now.”
A student of Class 5 Keshav Keshari said, “I have only heard that board examination results are often shocking or surprising. I hope they are surprising for me.”
Some helpline officials shared that most calls received were from students seeking help in dealing with results. “Students were afraid of failing a subject, often it was English,” the official said.
Re-examination for those could not pass
School Education Department announced that those students who do not pass the examination will be given additional tuition by the school. The board said that around 60 days after the declaration of results students will be given the opportunity to appear for re-examination.
“It is important and must be noted that it will be second and last opportunity for students to pass,” district project coordinator Akshya Singh Rathore said.
He added that if the student does not pass in all the subjects even after the evaluation of the re-examination, then such students will be detained.
This year after evaluating the performance of students and teachers, the board had decided to restart board examination in class 5 and class 8. This is the first time after the initial break, students will be required to attempt board examination in primary and middle school as well.
“Students were struggling with studies as of now, because a major part of the academic year, offline classes were restricted due to covid-19 outbreak,” Narendra Jain, Additional District Project Coordinator (ADPC) said.
He added that as per the schedule board exams for class 5 and class 8 were conducted in April.
“For students to move on to Classes 6 and 9, it is mandatory that they clear the board exams for Classes 5 and 8. If they fail to do so, they will be detained in the same grade,” Jain said.
The annual exam for class 5 began on April 1 and concluded on April 8.
MPBSE class 8 annual exams were conducted from April 1 to April 9.
Indore delighted, no Merit list
“Indore district has performed beyond our expectations this year. Considering how difficult it was for students to catch up on knowledge with the break of almost two years due to covid-19, we are delighted. Indore stood at fourth place in Class 8 results, where most districts failed to have a good passing percentage is a benchmark. We have almost same passing percentage for both Class 5 and Class 8. Class 5 had bigger struggle as their major education was on hold during covid. There was no merit list for the classes as it is unnecessary for these classes as of now. We do not want to build that much pressure.”
