In an exclusive interaction, district governor of Lion’s Club Dr Sadhna Sodani discussed how the club intends to help people in the city quoting the rising rates of depression among adults post covid-19 outbreak.

In an exclusive interaction, district governor of Lion’s Club Dr Sadhna Sodani discussed how the club intends to help people in the city quoting the rising rates of depression among adults post covid-19 outbreak.
“There is a hike of 20 to 30 per cent in depression among adults post covid-19, which can become a major problem if not solved,” Dr Sodani said. She added that this rise in depression is not just because of loneliness, it is also a result of distorted life.
“We can never find happiness no matter how much luxury we can secure, because one can only find true happiness, when he/she serves other people,” Dr Sodani said. Quoting instances from her life, she explained how life can become meaningless and filled with ego, if one does not orient self towards service.
Few women leaders in International NGOs
“There are only a few women leaders in international NGOs and groups like the Lion club,” Dr Sodani said. She added that about 35 years back, Lion’s club allowed women to be in leading position.
“Now, I am proud to share that there are 30 to 40 per cent members, who are women in Indore district club,” Dr Sodani said. Furthermore, most of the head post including district governor, coordinators, secretary, etc. are women now.
New Direction – New Thought
Lion’s club will focus on New Direction – New Thought as their motto for the year 2022-23. The club is working on various initiatives and some of the inspirational work that have inspired clubs in the other countries including outreach programmes.
“Here, we have a motto, where there is a need, there is a Lion, so we have reached out to remote places and communities,” Dr Sodani said. She added that this inspires other countries too.
One for environment
Lion’s club believes in leading by example. All the clubs across the district, which is over 200 in the district, have gone digital now. “We are not using one-time-use plastics and further, going paperless by doing everything on digital platforms,” Dr Sodani said.
Focus on Childhood cancer
For children struggling with cancer, the club has set-up a childhood cancer help centre. This centre helps by providing all the necessary medicines and help to patients.
Furthermore, the club will rotate and provide recently bought ventilators, oxygen cylinder, oximeter, etc. during covid-19 among govt hospitals.
