Indore-Edlabad highway will pass through a 12 km-long stretch through Choral jungle. About 9,000 trees are required to be cut for developing a 60 metre wide road. So, NHAI has deposited around Rs 5 crore to the forest department as compensation for the loss of around 9000 trees and net present value of the land, as shared by forest department officials.
Indore DFO Narendra Pandwa said, “At present, around 6-7 forest employees have been deployed for the logging of trees and soon, the strength of the team will be doubled to help speed-up the work. So far logging of around 1,500 trees has been completed.”
While the process is slower than expected due to rains, the forest department will be picking up the pace after monsoons.
NHAI has also deployed a team for cutting trees and their transportation to forest department’s depot. Pandwa has given them an assured to speed-up the logging by increasing strength of the team for now.
“So far, NHAI has cut around 3000 trees, while logging has been done for about 600 trees,” Pandwa said, adding that apart from taking up construction of 12-km long stretch through Choral jungle, construction of two tunnels, including one near Bheru Ghat, is underway. He added that it will reduce the travel time in reaching Khandwa to two hours.
NHAI Indore division wing has taken up construction of around 80 km stretch of around 200 km long Indore-Edlabad highway. In August last year foundation stone for construction of 33.4km long stretch costing Rs 1,162 crore between Indore’s Tejaji Nagar square to Balwada village of Khargone was lai, while the actual work was started on January 1, this year.
As per official statements, so far, around 21% work has been completed and 50% work of the next stretch of 45 km between Balwada and Dhangaon has been completed. The stretch between Tejaji Nagar and Balwada is the most difficult one and due to hurdles, the progress of work is getting affected.
