CBSE schools to work on wellness issues, create ambassadors & coordinators
About 10 per cent children aged 2 to 17 years have interpersonal relationship issues, about 8 per cent with behavioural issues in India and furthermore, India records one of the world's highest suicide rates for youth aged 15-29. Citing these facts from various researches published by World Health Organisation (WHO), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools will now fix these major wellness issues by creating wellness coaches in every school.
Launching this is an essential for every school, CBSE schools will initiate the program from upper primary (age 11 onwards) and will be expanded to earlier years of schooling in the coming years in a phased manner.

“As we move towards holistic education, we have to focus on children’s wellness and not just academic success. This requires a lot of change and transformation among teachers as well as parents. We have to change a mindset of judgement and seclusion. It all starts with a simple step of change, for which we start with teachers. For now, two trained teachers in every school will be designated as health and wellness coordinators.”

Teacher's training for forming foundations
“Considering the importance of this change, we are supporting teachers with training programs. The main objective of training is to appoint wellness ambassadors in each and every school who will take care of students ' physical, mental, and social health. A two-day capacity building program on school health and wellness was inaugurated at our school on Thursday.”

Requirements for wellness ambassadors
● Interested in such subjects and sensitive to issues related to children
● Non-judgmental
● Amiable with students
● Should have good rapport with the students
● Should be aware of local culture
● Can be from any discipline
● Should be able to attend residential training programme
● At least one male and female health and wellness/teacher should be deputed from each school
● Should be able to understand and speak the local language

“Transaction approaches primarily focused on experiential modes of learning are considered effective for life skills development. Some of the methods that can be used are: case studies/situational analysis, brainstorming, audio visual, role plays, guided group discussions, art – self expression, interactive games, quizzes, puppetry, expert talks, exposure visits, reflective exercises, parent engagement, debates, demonstration and practice.
