MP forests on fire, 550 incidents of delayed action
Quick action@ Ralamandal saves the sanctuary
With rising temperatures, Madhya Pradesh forests are under threat due to frequent forest fires, reportedly over 550 in 1.5 month. To add another one incident to the list, Ralamandal Sanctuary caught fire on Thursday. The fire started due to a fault in the DP located near Gate No. 2.
Luckily, the forest workers were active and noticed the fire. Taking swift action, the fire was controlled before it could spread further.
On the other hand, the state has noted 550 incidents, in which forest personnel were too slow to take action resulting in destruction of forest.
Also, many forest areas in the Indore division have reported four fire incidents in fifteen days. Information about the forest fire incident of Madhya Pradesh reaches every officer through the Forest Fire Alert System. According to the data recorded on the website, from March 15 to April 30, there have been 550 incidents of fire in the forests of the state, in which more than 200 fires have occurred in the forests under Indore forest division. In some incidents, it took 8 to 10 hours to extinguish the fire.
So there has been damage due to forest burning for more than twenty-four hours. The department has taken the responsible officers and employees under the purview of action by extracting the details of the incidents in the forest divisions. Where it took time to control the fire due to the negligence of forest personnel, the officers and employees posted there have been brought under strict action.
In case of an incident registered at 6 places in a range, action will be taken against the deputy ranger and ranger. At the same time, if there is an incident of fire in more than 8 places in a sub-forest division, then action will be taken against the SDO.
After assessing these incidents, APCCF Dilip Kumar has directed that disciplinary action will be taken against the forest personnel if the forest fire is not extinguished within 24 hours. Also, reports have been sought from different forest divisions of the state on fire incidents. If there is no satisfactory answer, from the beat in-charge to the deputy ranger and ranger have been taken under the purview of action.
