Bid to accelerate constructions projects, admin appoints SDO for clearance
Indore District Administration has cleared the way for regulated tree removal, pruning, and relocation to accelerate various civic development projects across the city. The move, in compliance with a December 2024 High Court order, comes as part of a broader strategy to balance urban growth with environmental preservation.
Collector Ashish Singh has appointed Kailash Joshi, Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (SDO) of Mhow, to oversee the process in accordance with legal and environmental norms. The decision is expected to address long-standing delays in roadwork, drainage upgrades, and infrastructure development caused by trees obstructing project sites.
To minimize environmental impact, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is set to introduce an advanced tree transplant machine, along with 20 supportive robotic machines, for the scientific relocation of trees. This initiative will allow mature trees to be carefully uprooted and replanted, rather than being felled.
The acquisition is part of a broader civic procurement plan for 2025, which includes 90 new water tankers, a mini fire mist jeep, a rescue ladder, 85 earthmoving machines, 15 drainage cleaning machines, and turntable machines. These additions aim to strengthen civic operations and ensure sustainable management of the city’s green spaces.
Amid water shortages impacting green belts and gardens, mayor-in-council (MIC) member Rajendra Rathore has directed officials to utilize treated water from sewage plants and draw water from local wells using installed motors to keep plants and trees healthy.
Continuing its environmental efforts, IMC has resolved to plant 51 lakh saplings this year. Zone-level officers have been instructed to immediately begin site selection and prepare a detailed beautification plan focusing on green belts and road dividers across the city.
