Scanned Answer Sheets Now Mandatory Before Re-evaluation
In a major step to improve transparency and make the examination system more student-friendly, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) revised its post-result evaluation process for the 2025 board exams. The new process made it mandatory for students to first obtain scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets before applying for verification of marks or re-evaluation.
Earlier, students could apply for verification of marks directly after the results were declared. Now, they had to first review their evaluated answer sheets. This allowed them to make an informed decision about whether or not, they should go ahead with verification or re-evaluation.
CBSE Controller of Examinations, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, explained the reason behind the change. He said, “We revised the order of post-result processes to ensure transparency and reduce unnecessary applications. This change empowered students to review their performance properly before raising concerns.”
The board implemented the following steps:
Students first had to request a scanned copy of their answer sheet.
Fee: ₹700 per subject for Class 12 and ₹500 for Class 10
After reviewing the answer sheet, they could apply for verification of marks,
Fee: ₹500 per subject
If still unsatisfied, they could apply for re-evaluation,
Fee: ₹100 per question
These applications were accepted only once per subject and had to be submitted online through the official CBSE website: cbse.gov.in.
The timeline for applications also changed. For Class 12 students, the window to request scanned copies opened from May 21 to May 27, 2025, and for verification/re-evaluation from May 28 to June 3, 2025. For Class 10 students, scanned copy requests were open from May 27 to June 7, and re-evaluation requests from June 8 to June 14.
CBSE stated that the move helped in streamlining the grievance redressal system. By reviewing the answer sheets first, many students realized that their answers were correctly evaluated and chose not to apply for re-evaluation. This saved time and effort for both students and the board.
The board also advised students to download and study the marking scheme available on the CBSE website before applying for any changes. This would help them understand how marks were awarded.
This new system proved especially helpful for students who were unsure about how to challenge their results. It gave them the tools and confidence to check their answers, and it made the process more fair and efficient for everyone involved.
For schools, it became important to guide students and parents through these steps and timelines to avoid missed opportunities.
