JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Begins in Indore: Paper Analysis and Student Trends

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Begins in Indore: Over 1.1 Lakh Students Appear in Madhya Pradesh

Indore, Jan 21: The first session of JEE Main 2026 commenced on Tuesday, January 21, with over 1.1 lakh students appearing across Madhya Pradesh. Indore emerged as a key hub for engineering aspirants, hosting between 28,000 and 32,000 candidates, including students from nearby districts such as Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar.

This year marks a record registration for JEE Main January session, with 14.5 lakh candidates appearing nationwide, reflecting growing interest in engineering courses.

Paper Analysis: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics

According to candidates and experts, the paper followed a similar pattern to previous sessions:

  • Physics: Moderately challenging, tested conceptual understanding and problem-solving speed. Topics such as mechanics, current electricity, and modern physics featured prominently.
  • Chemistry: Mostly scoring, with questions from Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry considered straightforward and based on NCERT concepts.
  • Mathematics: Most time-consuming section. Questions from Calculus, 3D Geometry, and Vectors were lengthy and calculation-heavy, requiring careful time management.

Overall, students described the paper as moderate to slightly difficult, requiring accuracy and efficient pacing.

Atil Arora, academic expert: “Physics and Chemistry offered scoring opportunities for students with strong preparation, while Mathematics required both conceptual clarity and time control. Success depended on steady pacing and selection of questions.”

Rising Number of Candidates and Examination Centers

To accommodate the growing number of aspirants, NTA has expanded examination centers in Madhya Pradesh. Along with established cities — Indore (MP07), Bhopal (MP03), Jabalpur (MP08), and Gwalior (MP06) — a new center was added in Chhatarpur (MP24). This addition aims to reduce travel for rural students, particularly in the Bundelkhand region.

Indore continues to be a central hub for JEE preparation in Central India, attracting students from across neighboring districts. Experts noted that competition in Indore remains intense and that candidates must focus on both accuracy and time management.

Next Steps for Candidates

JEE Main 2026 Session 1 will continue over several days. Results will determine eligibility for JEE Advanced and admissions to NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions.
