Sanawadiya Leopard Captured: Forest Dept Ends 5-Day Search in Indore
Indore residents can finally sleep soundly. After a high-stakes, five-day operation that saw forest officials and drones scouring the outskirts of Sanawadiya, a female leopard has been successfully captured and moved to safety.
The leopard, which had been linked to several livestock killings in the area, was trapped in a specialized cage late Friday night. The operation was a masterpiece of coordination, involving thermal drone surveillance and strategic baiting.
Medical Status: "Healthy and Fit"
Following her capture, the animal was immediately transported to the Indore Zoo (Kamala Nehru Zoological Museum). Speaking to Tina Khatri, zoo authorities confirmed that the female leopard is approximately 4-5 years old. Dr. Uttam Yadav reported that she is in "excellent physical condition" and showed no signs of stress or injury from the cage capture.
What Happens Next?
Per wildlife protocols, the leopard will be kept under observation for 24 hours. Once cleared, the Forest Department plans to release her into the Choral forest range, a dense habitat far removed from human settlements. This move aims to ensure the animal's survival while preventing further human-wildlife conflict.
