21 Indore schools flagged sensitive; students face 15km commute to curb cheating

By TINA KHATRI | Indore | February 21, 2026

In a high-stakes move to preserve the integrity of the state’s education system, the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) has enforced a radical "distance mapping" strategy for the ongoing 2026 MP Board exams.

Students from approximately 21 schools in the Indore district are currently navigating a major logistical hurdle: traveling up to 15 kilometres from their home institutions to reach designated exam centres.

Why the 15km rule was applied:

  • Historical Malpractice: Recurrent reports of organized mass cheating and leaks.
  • Private Candidate Clusters: High-risk demographics for potential irregularities.
  • Local Influence: Concerns over "copying mafias" influencing neighbourhood centres.

Reassignment to Nodal Hubs

To break these cycles, students from flagged schools have been reassigned to large, government-run "Nodal" hubs where the environment is under total administrative control. Key hubs include:

  • Govt. Malwa Kanya School
  • Govt. Excellence School (Bal Vinay Mandir)

Surveillance 2.0: High-Tech Security

Data from the MPBSE 2026 plan reveals that these 21 centres are being treated as high-security zones equipped with:

📡 Signal Jammers
Installed to render mobile and Bluetooth devices useless at sensitive sites.
🎥 Live CCTV Streams
Feeds broadcast directly to Bhopal HQ and the Indore Collector’s office.
📹 Mandatory Videography
Recording the opening of question papers and sealing of answer sheets daily.

The Commute Challenge

Class 12 exams (started Feb 10) and Class 10 exams (started Feb 13) have seen thousands of families racing against the clock. Indore DEO Shanta Swami Bhargav confirmed that while travel is inconvenient, the priority is a "leak-proof exam."

Entry Rules for Sensitive Sites:

Students must arrive by 8:30 AM. The 30-minute mandatory entry rule is being enforced with zero exceptions to maintain security protocols.
